How local moves are priced
Most Edmonton movers charge by the hour for local moves, for a truck and a crew. Some also offer a flat rate: one fixed price for the whole move. At Magpie Movers, it’s $189 per hour for a truck and two movers, all-inclusive, plus GST, or a flat-rate quote if you prefer certainty.
Typical times and totals
These are typical ranges at $189/hr for a move inside Edmonton, before GST. Your written quote is based on your actual move.

|---|---|---|
| Studio | 2.5–3.5 hours | $472–$662 |
| 1 bedroom | 3–4.5 hours | $567–$850 |
| 2 bedroom | 4.5–6 hours | $850–$1,134 |
| 2-bedroom townhouse | 5–6.5 hours | $945–$1,228 |
| 3 bedroom | 6–8 hours | $1,134–$1,512 |
What changes the price
- How much you own, and whether boxes are packed before the crew arrives.
- Access: long walks from the truck, slow elevators, narrow stairs.
- Heavy items: pianos, safes and large appliances can need extra hands.
- Timing: summer and the last days of the month book up first.
Fees to ask about before you book
A low hourly rate isn’t always the cheapest move. Ask every mover whether their quote includes:
- Travel time to your home and back to their yard, or a dispatch fee
- Fuel or mileage charges
- Stair, elevator or long-carry fees
- Weekend or evening surcharges
- Charges for blankets, shrink wrap or furniture assembly
Magpie Movers doesn’t charge stair, elevator or weekend fees, and blankets, wrap and furniture assembly are included. See our full pricing.
How to save money
- Pack and label every box before moving day.
- Get rid of what you don’t need first. Junk removal can take it away.
- Book the elevator and a parking spot close to the door.
- Move mid-month and mid-week if you can.
