Moving questions, answered
Everything people usually ask before booking a move with us. Can’t find yours? Call or text us.
How much do movers cost in Edmonton?
Our rate is $189 per hour for a truck and two movers, all-inclusive, plus GST, with a [MINIMUM HOURS] minimum. A typical 1-bedroom move is about 3 to 4.5 hours. See our pricing page for typical totals.
Do you move just one item or a few things?
Yes. We move single items, Marketplace pickups and small loads. See small and single-item moves.
Do you offer a discount for people with disabilities?
Yes, [Y]% off for people with disabilities, including AISH recipients. See moves for people with disabilities.
Can I get an estimate without a home visit?
Yes. Send photos or book a quick video walkthrough and we’ll send you a written work order with your price, crew, truck and coverage. In-person visits are available for larger homes.
What happens if something gets damaged?
Tell the crew right away or contact us soon after the move with photos. See coverage and claims for how coverage works and how we handle claims.
Will I talk to a real person?
Always. A real local person answers your calls and texts. No bots or call centres.
Do you offer flat-rate moves?
Yes. Ask for a flat-rate quote and you get one fixed price for the whole move, so the total doesn’t change if it takes longer than planned.
Do you charge extra for stairs, elevators or weekends?
No. There are no extra fees for stairs, elevators or weekend moves.
How far ahead should I book?
Two to four weeks ahead is ideal, and earlier for summer or month-end dates. We can sometimes take short-notice moves, so it’s always worth asking.
Do you need a deposit?
We take a [DEPOSIT AMOUNT] deposit to hold your date. It goes toward your final bill. See our booking policies.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Let us know at least [CANCELLATION NOTICE] before your move to reschedule or cancel. Full details are in our booking policies.
Are you insured?
Yes. Magpie Movers is licensed, insured and covered by WCB Alberta. Your belongings are covered while in our care. Ask us for details.
Do you take furniture apart and put it back together?
Yes, at no extra charge. That includes beds, tables and most shelving.
What should I do before the movers arrive?
Pack and label boxes, empty drawers of loose or heavy items, book the elevator if you’re in an apartment or condo, and keep a clear path to the door. In winter, shovel and salt the walkway.
Do you move in winter?
Yes, all year. We protect your floors from snow and slush, and our crews are used to Edmonton winters.
Is there anything you won’t move?
We can’t move propane tanks, gasoline, paint, chemicals or other hazardous items. Please keep cash, jewellery and important documents with you.
Should I tip my movers?
Tipping is never required. If you were happy with the crew, a tip or a Google review is always appreciated.
